Planning a Maternity Photo Shoot in the Cinque Terre

“I’ve heard there are lots of stairs—can we actually do a maternity photo shoot in the Cinque Terre?” As you can see from our portfolio: absolutely yes. It’s true that the Cinque Terre has lots of stairs and uphill paths, but it depends on what you feel comfortable doing. If you enjoy walking and would like to reach some panoramic viewpoints, we can guide you along an easy trail without going too far from the village center. The furthest viewpoint may take about ten minutes to reach, depending on the village we choose. For example, in Vernazza there are beautiful viewpoints less than five minutes from the center, and the same goes for Manarola. If you prefer staying in the village center without walking too much—and keeping everything on flat ground—there are still many beautiful spots where we can capture photos with breathtaking views: colorful houses, crystal-clear water, fishing boats, and the iconic terraced hillsides descending toward the sea. The most important thing is that you let us know your intentions and your physical condition in advance, so we can suggest the best village based on your needs and, of course, based on the weather conditions.

What to Bring for Your Cinque Terre Maternity Photo Shoot

There are no strict rules, and bringing props is absolutely optional. If you’d like to bring something but don’t know what, here’s what we’ve seen over the years: some parents-to-be brought baby shoes, a tiny bodysuit, sonograms, or a pair of baby socks. Feel free to express yourselves in any way you like!

Which Cinque Terre Village Is Best for a Maternity Photoshoot?

From our experience, we recommend Manarola, Vernazza, or Monterosso—the latter especially if you prefer photos exclusively by the sea, without the typical colorful houses in the background. And what about Riomaggiore and Corniglia? Riomaggiore is beautiful! If you visit the Cinque Terre between November and March, we can easily shoot on the popular terrace overlooking the village. But during high season this spot becomes extremely crowded, which makes it difficult to find enough space to shoot. You’ve probably seen images from our portfolio taken on the breakwater facing the village—the view is wonderful, but reaching that spot requires climbing over rocks. For a maternity photo shoot, it’s not worth the risk. Manarola and Vernazza offer equally stunning views and are much more accessible for moms-to-be. Corniglia, on the other hand, is the only village not directly connected to its train station. The station is there, but unlike the other villages—where the train stops right inside the town—Corniglia requires climbing more than 300 steps just to reach the center. And you must walk even further to reach the viewpoint with the village in the background. To avoid unnecessary effort for the expectant mom and her beautiful baby bump, we prefer choosing other villages that are just as charming and much easier to reach.

Best Time of Day for a Maternity Photo Shoot in the Cinque Terre

First, you should consider the time of year you’ll be visiting. From April to October it’s high season, so there will be more tourists around. If you prefer greater intimacy, morning sessions are usually the best option for a maternity photo shoot in Cinque Terre. If crowds don’t bother you, sunset is also a beautiful moment—just like the session we did for Leah and Chris in Vernazza. In our photos it may look like no one was around, but trust us… that’s not the case! We’re always patient and wait for the right second to capture the perfect shot. During daytime sessions in high season, we sometimes have to let the flow of people pass to avoid tourists in the background. We don’t use AI—we love creating authentic, real, spontaneous photos. 🙂

Planning a Gender Reveal in the Cinque Terre

Absolutely—it’s an emotional and unforgettable moment! Just keep in mind that throwing confetti is not allowed, so we recommend using small smoke bombs instead. They look great in photos and are easy to carry.
