CINQUE TERRE FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

Are you planning a trip to the Cinque Terre with your family and thinking about documenting these precious moments by hiring a Cinque Terre family photographer? You’re in the right place!

We’re parents too, and we absolutely love documenting the precious moments we experience while traveling around the world with our little Leo! For example, when we visited Egypt, we woke up at 6 AM to photograph inside the archaeological sites to avoid the heat and the crowds. We turned the experience into a little adventure for Leo — we all played the role of explorers, and we came home with unforgettable memories.

But don’t worry: to get beautiful Cinque Terre family photos, you do NOT need to wake up at 6 AM! Some families are early birds and wouldn’t mind, but for those who prefer some well-deserved rest, that’s totally fine. We have photographed families in the Cinque Terre at basically every hour of the day, in every month of the year. What truly matters is knowing where to go at a specific time based on the light and weather conditions — and that’s our job. We will suggest the best timing for your Cinque Terre family photoshoot, so you don’t have to stress about planning anything. Below the gallery you will find useful information and answers to the most frequently asked questions, so you can prepare at best for your Cinque Terre family experience!

FAQ

How long should a Cinque Terre family photoshoot last?

As parents, we understand this very well. Not all children are the same — some have more energy and patience, while others naturally need to move around more.
So, the question is: is it possible to capture beautiful photos in just 30 minutes?
Yes, absolutely — and that’s usually the duration we recommend.
If your kids are prepared for a longer session, you can go for one hour as well. We receive many requests from families for Cinque Terre family photos, and one of our favorite moments to shoot is the morning, to avoid the crowds. But if, due to travel logistics, you can’t do that — no problem at all. We are local experts, and as you can see in our portfolio, we have photographed at all hours of the day. We know exactly where to go and which locations to recommend depending on the weather.

We believe in one simple principle: Quality over quantity — always.

Some photographers shoot hundreds of photos out of insecurity, thinking that quantity will save the final result. Others believe you must shoot at least one hour or more to make a family session meaningful, often hiding a bit of insecurity behind the idea that “more time means better results.” But if you rely on a truly experienced Cinque Terre family photographer, even just twenty minutes are more than enough — just like we did for Jeremie’s family. The results speak for themselves.

Of course, with a one-hour session you can explore more locations and, if requested, even more villages. But don’t think for a second that in twenty minutes you can’t get many beautiful photos with different backgrounds. Everything depends on the photographer’s skill and ability to keep the process simple and effective. The Cinque Terre villages are small, and we can easily walk from one spot to another in less than a minute without rushing. We don’t like stress or speed — we love seeing you relaxed and enjoying your quality time with your loved ones. That’s the only way to truly immortalize your Cinque Terre family experience in the best possible way! A very important note for the summer months: If you are planning a trip to the Cinque Terre in summer with your family, 30 minutes is definitely the ideal choice. Summer is hot, and we know how tiring it can be for kids. Shorter sessions also help you feel more comfortable and avoid the discomfort of sweating. Based on our experience, we can absolutely confirm that 30 minutes is the perfect duration for a Cinque Terre family photoshoot, especially in summer!

How can I get the best photos if my child is not very cooperative?

If we force a child to do things they don’t enjoy, we will never get the result we want. Our approach is to respect the moment. If your child doesn’t enjoy posing, that’s totally fine — our job is to document natural moments and real interactions. A good Cinque Terre family photographer needs to be flexible and understand who they have in front of them. Over the years, we have met many families from all over the world and documented their Cinque Terre family experience. We’ve met super-enthusiastic kids and kids who would have preferred playing at the beach instead of taking photos — and that’s exactly where the “playfulness approach” becomes fundamental. We always try to capture their attention through play, never through pressure. There is no need to push them into performing or posing: our style is about capturing spontaneity while respecting the people in front of us. The most important thing we can suggest is this: let your children experience the photoshoot as a game, not as an obligation.

Which village do you recommend?

Before choosing the location and timing, we always check the weather forecast — it’s essential for the success of any Cinque Terre family photoshoot. Once we know the conditions, we can recommend the best place and time to capture the best light. The villages we recommend most often for Cinque Terre family photos are:  Manarola : Perfect if you love panoramic photos with the iconic colorful houses in the background. You can also move closer to the houses, as we did for Alyssa. Vernazza : We usually shoot in the little harbor, surrounded by colorful boats and vibrant scenery. Monterosso : It doesn’t have the typical village houses like Manarola or Vernazza, but you get the coastline and the gorgeous deep blue sea behind you.

Many families ask about Riomaggiore. It is absolutely beautiful, but it’s important to know that the best viewpoint is on the rocks facing the village. This is not the safest option for families, especially with small children, because climbing on rocks can be dangerous and there isn’t much space for larger groups. If you truly love Riomaggiore, the best moment is early morning — before sunrise and before the crowds reach the terrace and the area near the harbor. As local Cinque Terre family photographers, our job is to suggest the right locations and timing based on weather and conditions. Don’t stress about logistics — that’s our job. You focus on enjoying your Cinque Terre family experience and your vacation with your loved ones.

Do you recommend a specific outfit?

This is always a personal choice. We usually suggest light and/or colorful outfits, like Christina chose — soft tones, pastel colors, and avoiding big logos or stripes. The Cinque Terre are incredibly colorful, with bright houses, deep blue sea, and lush green hills. Matching your outfits with harmonious tones can create a beautifully balanced palette. BUT — this doesn’t mean you must wear colors. If you love black, for example, go for it! Many times we’ve photographed people dressed completely in black — like Lauren — and the contrast looks beautiful. What matters is that you choose outfits that truly represent your personal style. Our job is to capture your smiles, your emotions, and your memories during your Cinque Terre family photoshoot. Clothing is only an accessory — your joy is the real magic.

Your style is exactly what we’re looking for. Any tips to achieve the same results we see in your portfolio?

The most effective advice we can give you is this: Let go of expectations and enjoy the moment with your loved ones. It sounds simple, but it’s incredibly powerful. Over the years, we’ve realized that the best results come not just from our eye and experience, but from a sort of magic that happens when people are truly present, relaxed, and enjoying the experience — without thinking too much about poses or “perfect shots.” That’s our secret: we have fun together during the session!
